Sub-17: Padilla Implodes

May 4th, 2009 | By: Carlos | No Comments »

On Saturday La Tri played against a impressive Colombian side in the Sub-17 South American Tournament held in Chile. Colombia humiliated Ecuador with a final score of 3-0. Just as the game against Uruguay, the defense couldn’t mark their men at the first minutes of the game and conceded a early goal from Edwin Cardona. After that Padilla, Ecuador’s goalkeeper slowly started to crumble.
A free-kick was giving at the 27th minute close to the box. Edwin Cardona shoots the ball and Padilla holds his hand up to stop the ball from going into the net but puts his arms up way too apart from each other and the ball goes in between his hands . You can tell that he knew the goal was completely his fault. Ecuador tried to get back in the game making some good passes but couldn’t penetrate the solid Colombian defense. Then at the 39th minute Padilla completely crumbles. He gets a back pass from a defender and I honestly don’t know what he was trying to do but my gut is telling me he was trying to dribble Edwin Cardona but he failed horribly and Cardona steals the ball away from him and in a desperation move, he tackles Edwin down like a rugby player in the box. Of course everybody knew what was going to happen next. Nobody protested when he was shown a red card and Colombia were given a penalty which the same Edwin Cardona scored to get his hat-trick.Colombia showed their superiority throughout the second half and controlled the game to keep the result. On Thursday Ecuador play Bolivia lets hope we can beat them.
