Sporting Lisbon are going to the Champions League, Miraculously

Felipao’s new team Sporting Lisbon got a miraculos draw against FC Twente today during stoppage time from a corner that Felipe Caicedo won for his team. The goal was given to none other then to the goalkeeper, Rui Patrício. I personally think it was a own goal but you guys decide. Anyways, the goal was enough for Sporting to win a place in the Champions league because of the away goal rule after the the game in Lisbon ended a goalless draw. Felipe came off the bench and contributed to the goal hopefully he will find the net starting the Champions League.

Sporting and Manchester City reached a one-year loan deal with option of a permanent deal. He will have a chance to participate in the Champions League. I see this as a good change because he would have had no chance to get a game since Manchester City have signed strikers like Santa Cruz, Adebayor, and Tevez.

After a successful trail in the United States, Burnley Sign ex Real Madrid Castilla player Fernando Guerrero on loan. Burnley have recently been promoted to the premier league so now we have three Ecuadorians in the two clubs that ascended from the Coca-Cola League. Villareal have bought Jefferson Montero from Independiente Del Valle for five seasons. He impressed many top European clubs by scoring the opening goal against Peru in the World Cup Playoffs. Villareal snatched him and has a very promising future. In his preseason debut he scored two goals (as well as 5 assists) with Villarreal in a preseason friendly against Third Division side Navata that ended with a embarrassing score of 27 to 0.

As you all know Luis Antonio Valencia signed for one of the biggest clubs in the world, Manchester United. He signed a four-year contract for an undisclosed fee, rumored to be in the region of £16 million. However to the suprise of the Ecuadorian press, he didn’t get the number 7 shirt which legendary players like Cantona, Beckahm and more recently Cristiano Ronaldo sported while playing in Old Trafford, his new teammate Michael Owen got the 7 shirt while Valencia got the number 25.
Valencia had a amazing debut were he scored the goal that in the end gave the Red Devils the victory against Boca Juniors in the Audi Cup. Hopefully he will continue contributing to Manchester United and make a big impact in the club once the Premier League starts.

Hello I have been back from our beautiful country for a few weeks and I haven’t had the time to update this blog for that I apologize. While in Ecuador I saw as much football shows as I promised and absorb that most interesting information and will post them in the future. In the two weeks I was in Ecuador the press was going crazy for the record transfer of Antonio Valencia to Manchester United. I was staying in Guayaquil with my family most of the time and I noticed many people were celebrating the success of Emelec (who now are going to play a quailfying match to see if they can advance to the group stages of the Copa Suamericana 2009) while I was concerned for the misfortune of my team Barcelona S.C had (they were close to getting relegated) while there, thankfully the new signings worked and are doing better now. The whole country once again celebrated another title for Liga after they thrashed Inter of brazil four to zero on aggregate. I will be making a few post today to update the news about our players that went abroad so expect that shortly. Again I apologize for the delay.

Newly promoted club Brimingham sign another Ecuadorian, this time a older player “La Sombra” Espinoza. They bought Giovanni Espinoza to reinforce their defense. At 32 years of age, I was surprised they decided to sign him because of his age but on the other hand he has the experience of playing in clubs of Mexico, Holland and Brazil not to mention the 80 caps for La Tri. Birmingham snapped him for a two-year deal hopefully with his stature of 6 ft 2 inches, he will succeed in one of the most important leagues of the world.

Now we have another player in the Premier League, Cristian Benitez. After clubs like Wigan and PSV fighting over him, newly promoted Birmgham City have signed Ecuadorian striker Cristian Bentiez for a club record, around 11 millon dollars for a three-year-deal. Cristian Benitez will face the likes of Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard and Wayne Rooney in the Premier League.
