Ecuador played with two forwards this time (a little late there Javier Rodriguez). Ecuador said goodbye to Nigeria in a embarrassing fashion losing 4-1. Bolivia dominated most of the game and Ecuador could only muster one goal from Quiñonez.
Overall Ecuador had a terrible tournament only getting one victory against Venezuela, two ties and three loses. I don’t see any of these kids with a future in Europe besides De La Cruz but I won’t put my money on it. Karma got to Ecuador and made them receive 7 goals in two games and they well know that they didn’t even deserve to advance to the next round. Hopefully these “pelados” will get this experience and work hard to improve (especially Padilla). Thank god we have a kick-ass Sub-20 team.

Colombia humiliated Ecuador with a final score of 3-0. Just as the game against Uruguay, the defense couldn’t mark their men at the first minutes of the game and conceded a early goal from Edwin Cardona. After that Padilla, Ecuador’s goalkeeper slowly started to crumble.
A free-kick was giving at the 27th minute close to the box. Edwin Cardona shoots the ball and Padilla holds his hand up to stop the ball from going into the net but puts his arms up way too apart from each other and the ball goes in between his hands . You can tell that he knew the goal was completely his fault. Ecuador tried to get back in the game making some good passes but couldn’t penetrate the solid Colombian defense. Then at the 39th minute Padilla completely crumbles. He gets a back pass from a defender and I honestly don’t know what he was trying to do but my gut is telling me he was trying to dribble Edwin Cardona but he failed horribly and Cardona steals the ball away from him and in a desperation move, he tackles Edwin down like a rugby player in the box. Of course everybody knew what was going to happen next. Nobody protested when he was shown a red card and Colombia were given a penalty which the same Edwin Cardona scored to get his hat-trick.Colombia showed their superiority throughout the second half and controlled the game to keep the result. On Thursday Ecuador play Bolivia lets hope we can beat them.
After only mustering up a tie against Uruguay, Ecuador had to wait on the Venezuela vs. Chile game. Here is the situation, Chile is playing at home against a disappointing Venezuela side. If Chile wins, Ecuador gets eliminated. If Venezuela wins Ecuador passes to the next round. If they tie, Ecuador passes. The most probable of the three scenarios lucky for us, did not happen, Chile tied against Venezuela and were eliminated from the tournament on their own soil.
Ecuador had enough to win the game, the main person to blame of the draw is the Manager Javier Rodriguez. For most of the tournament Ecuador played with one forward (Celi) the first half and then the second half they subbed in a second forward and play a 4-4-2. However in this crucial game Rodriguez didn’t even bother to put that extra forward until the last 10 minutes of the game when it was too late for him to have any effect on the game. Ecuador had a few chances; One ball hit the post in a free kick and Y.Ordonez missed a sitter when Uruguay’s goalkeeper passed the ball to him in the box by accident and Ordonez’s chip went over the net. Uruguay’s goal came early when the defense was caught off guard and De Los Santos curled it in from a distance. Ecuador’s goal came at the 23rd minute when Celi was fouled near/in the box and a penalty was called. Jonathan De La Cruz made the goal. The last two goals Ecuador has made in the tournament was from the twelve steps. Ecuador was extremely lucky to go to the next round. Unfortunately our Sub-20 wasn’t as lucky since they were eliminated by a coin toss earlier this year in Venezuela and they had a hell of a team.
