Ecuador’s unfortunate results have left us with a miniscule chance of qualifying for the third consecutive time to the World Cup. Many Ecuadorians such as myself lay awake at night and think, “What if Julio Cesar didn’t do all those amazing saves during the Ecuador vs Brazil game, what if we beat Venezuela,Paraguay and Colombia at home and Argentina away as we truly deserved to?”

Well I whipped up some of my photoshop magic and saw if this was to happen:

Here is Ecuador’s current position

And now is the one where we won the games we were suppose to:

In this table Ecuador beat Venezuela, Colombia & Paraguay home 1-0, Beat Argentina away, and beat Brazil 3-0 (we should have)
Note: There might be some minor caluclation errors here and there but the main positions of the tables are still the same.

Shocking isn’t it? We would be on top with one foot in South Africa already. It is fun to dream but don’t give up hope just yet, even though its unlikely, it is still mathematically possible for Ecuador to still go to the World Cup. Si Se Puede!

Now it seems that some of the big boys are considering vying for his services.

Try these on for size: Valencia, Atletico Madrid, Sevilla, Milan, Juventus, Fiorentina, Udinese and Palermo. Rumors at this point, but we will keep abreast of the situation. I’d love to see more Ecuas in Spain / Italy.

Jorge Guagua’s 88th-minute penalty was not enough to overcome two late Honduran goals, one each by the Italian Serie A-based duo of Julio Cesar de Leon and David Suazo.

It didn’t help that from halftime the visitors were down to ten men, and then spent the last half hour with only nine.

La Tricolor were paced by Cristian Benitez, who is quickly showing that he is the goal-scoring future for Ecuador. Other goals came from Cristian Lara, Felipe Caicedo and Patricio Urrutia. Excepting Urrutia (who has admittedly been playing well of late), the scorers are amongst the youngsters, and therefore the future, of the Ecuador national team.

Sure, El Salvador has not been playing well lately. But this is only a good sign.

Nazareno, who plays for Chimborazo in Ecaudor’s third division, suffered chest pains during a match last week and died of an apparent cardiac arrest.

UDLC was a no-show for the recent Bolivia friendly, and has thusly been left out of the upcoming matches against El Salvador and Honduras.

Sez the gaffer: “I’m waiting for him to talk directly to me to know the reasons for not being with the team. Until I get an explanation I feel he has got a lot of things to sort out. So I’m not counting on him for these games.”

Seems like UDLC, who is as we’ve said before one of the better guys in all of professional football, has some ’splaining to do to his coach.
