World Cup XI Set

May 27th, 2006 | By: Trent | 6 Comments »

Ecuador Coach Luis Suarez knows which 11 players will start against Poland on June 9–but his lips are sealed. According to his official website, Coach Suarez is confident in who his starters wil be, but will only say that he hopes to feature those eleven players against Macedonia on Sunday.

It would really be nice if Ecuador could field the actual starters tomorrow. After all, it’s the team’s last chance to do so before the tournament starts. I worry about continuity issues otherwise.

Any guesses as to the XI?

Trent,

Here’s who’d I be starting if I were Coach Suarez:

GK: Villafuerte - i think he lost his position when he started misbehaving with Barcelona last year

Defense: de la Cruz, Hurtado, Espinoza and Reascos

Midfield: Castillo, Ayovi, Mendez, Valencia

Forwards: Kaviedes, Delgado

Ayovi’s ability to transition offense to defense is underrated, and he was sorely missed. The strikers weren’t really off last Wednesday night, it was the midfield.

Someone mentioned after the game that every pass looked like it would be intercepted and I agree. Only Kaviedes brought a touch of class and creativity to the game (from the Ecua squad, at least…Colombia definitely had its own thing going). Hats off to Trent, I’d given up believing in the kid but you were right, he does play at another level.

Does anyone have any clue as to what channel the game tomorrow might be shown on in europe (namely Ireland) if it is going to be shown at all?

sorry Rob, no idea. i think someone mentioned it’ll be on Ecuavisa, but I’m not certain.

Nice to see you’re an Ecua fan. I have grandparents from Eire that emigrated to Guayaquil so I follow Ireland games as well.

For Ecua fans in Queens (and without a dish), they’ll have the game at Tropical on Jamaica Avenue.
