World Cup Roster Released Wednesday
Ecuador Coach Luis Suarez and the FEF will release the final World Cup roster this Wednesday. I’m most interested in the front of the attack. Obviously, Augustin Delgado will be on the squad, just as it’s obvious that he will start this summer in Germany. But who should be up front with El Tin?
Felix Borja currently of El Nacional but headed to Olympiakos of Greece after the tournament, will likely win a spot. He’s been in good form lately, and the Kangaroo does have some much-needed aerial ability. Whether he is seasoned enough is a question that Suarez must ask.
Carlos Tenorio, who plays somewhat off of the radar in Qatar, is a big, strong forward with a nose for the goal. I like Super Teno to make the team.
Franklin Salas is a good player, but I’m afraid his knee injury will keep him out of consideration.
Striker Roberto Mina has shown some flashes of brilliance in the young MLS season. It may be that playing in the United States hurts Mina’s chances, but I have faith that Coach Suarez has kept his eye on the Raging Bull.
Cristian Lara is quite pacy, but he may be a little small for the team’s needs when facing bigger European competition.
Barcelona’s Jhonny Baldeon is a possibility. He’s scored five goals so far this season, but he has been slightly injured. I’m just not hearing much buzz for Baldeon’s inclusion.
Teenager Felipe Caicedo is, well, a teenager. Suarez has said that he will give him a chance, but we can’t all be Theo Walcott.
Last but not least, Ivan Kaviedes. Will El Nine get the call? His reputation doesn’t help his chances, of course, but neither does his intimate relationship with the Argentinos Junior bench.
Here’s who I want to see on the forwards list when the World Cup roster is announced (if five spots are available, that is):
Augustin Delgado
Carlos Tenorio
Roberto Mina
Felix Borja
Ivan Kaviedes
OK, tell me how ridiculous my picks are. Who would you rather see removed from that list or added to it?

Trent – I think you’ve got great insight into the Ecuadorian game but my picks at forward to partner El Tin would be Salas or Lara. I think speed at this level is more important and Salas and Lara have game breaking ability… just in case goals are hard to come by as many so-called experts predict.
I’m not sure about Salas match fitness but assuming he’s fit, I’d take:
Augustin Delgado
Franklin Salas
Cristian Lara
Roberto Mina
Felix Borja

Nice list Trent. I def. agree that Delgado, Tenorio and Borja will be on that plane to Germany. Mina may be too green and Kaviedes will be three hours late getting to the airport. The Christhian boys, Benitez and Larita, will probably fill in for them.
I still think the scoring will have to come from the midfielders. Tenorio’s the fastest big guy I’ve ever seen but he panics in front of goal, and Delgado will be guarded tighter than Fidel Castro at a Miami Heat game.
Baldeon took it upon himself to create some buzz, he’s been telling the dailies he’s 200% sure he’s going to Germany.

lol re: Kaviedes missing the flight.
As for Baldeon, hey, I guess sometimes you gotta create your own buzz. Because no one else is, at the moment.

First, I think the list below all merit the opportunity to represent our country. I would exclude Ivan Kaviedes based on “characther issues.” Ecuador is in the spot light and I feel we really need to create a positve reflection of our country. We’ve had way to much turmoil already with the “Luna scandal” so I’d rather lose with class than win with mud on our face. That being said I think this group CAN win.
Augustin Delgado
Franklin Salas
Roberto Mina
Felix Borja
Carlos Tenorio

E4L: True, I’m making a big assumption in guessing that JIK would be in the mix at all. Although I would like to see El Nine on the roster, I certainly understand if Suarez leaves him off.
As for Salas, I hear conflicting rumors every other day, so it’s hard to say what his real status is.

first of all u do need christian lara. size doesn’t matter at all n he’s an excellent kicker. Franklin salas is injured so he wouldn’t really play a lot of mintues if he gets the call. Felix borja only plays good in nacional. I don’t really see him playing that well for la tri. Roberto mina is a maybe. carlos tenerio yes. jhonny has a 75% of getting the call. I wouldn’t like to have ivan kaviedes on my team. He is really good though. Felipe caicedo might not recieve the call.
Carlos Tenerio
Christian Lara
Ivan kaviedes
Jhonny Baldeon
Agustin Delgado

I CHANGED MY MIND BALDEON HAS A 50-50 CHANCE ON MAKING IT. LARA SHOULD MAKE THE TEAM BUT ITS BETWEEN BORJA AND BALDEON. PROBABLY BORJA IS GOING TO MAKE IT. BALDEON IS SIGHTLY INJURED.
AGUSTIN DELGADO
CARLOS TENERIO
IVAN KAVIEDES
CHRISTIAN LARA
FELIX BORJA
