Where to Watch Ecuador v. Germany?

June 19th, 2006 | By: Trent | 12 Comments »

As per this and other comments and requests, it would be nice if readers could post their favorite local bar/pub/business to watch Ecuador’s Tuesday match versus Germany. The more countries, the better.

Where are the best places to watch the match in your neck of the woods?

I live in NYC. Anybody know of any good bars with a solid Ecuador fan base in the city?

Michael,

Don’t know any in the city but if you wanna hop on the 7 train you can catch the game (or the post-game celebrations) at a number of places in Queens. Tropical Restaurant is the first stop in Queens on the 7 train and it’s an Ecuadorian restaurant, so you’re sure to find a strong Ecua fan base there. Extravaganza is on Northern; it’s a Colombian joint but it’ll be all Ecua for the game and if the game happens to suck, the waitresses wear next to nothing so there’s always something to look at. Things get heated during qualies but not so sure what the atmosphere will be like during a WC game at 10 am. I guarantee it beats watching it from the office, though >=O

Trent, these places might not be in different countries but Queens is the capital of Ecuador (it’s in the CIA factbook)and nyc is the capital of the world, so there, i covered all bases!

Hello fellow Ecuas,

Does anyone know of any spots in Northern California, specifically the SF Bay Area.

Thanks,

E4L

Hey Michael,

For the opener against Poland I went to Cuenca Restaurant in Queens (Roosevelt @ 78th). Highly recommend it. Of course there’s plenty of bars around there (Jackson Heights) that attract Ecuadorian supporters. I haven’t found any good places in Manhattan to watch the games. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I have the same problem. I’m on the north shore of Long Island so the suburbs are pretty isolated from any good places to watch Ecuador play Germany. I could go to Hempstead. I watched the Ecuador-Poland game there. I forget the name of the restaurant but it was a Colombian chicken place(Pollos Don Mario I believe) , very clean, good service and it was all ecuadorian fans and there were like 7 large plasma TVs. I went to Restaurante Tropical in Queens (Off exit 16 from the L.I.E) for all the qualifiers leading to this world cup and it was always a good time. If anyone has other good suggestions around Long Island or Queens please share them with us. It would be cool to gather people from this blog and cheer for Ecuador.
I thought this was a nice quote from an Italian newspaper about “La Tri”:
“Descansa niño que seguimos nosotros… aquí pasan los héroes de Atahualpa, más buenos e inteligentes. Un equipo de rostros bellos e historias interesantes”.

El Corriere della Sera (Italian Newpaper)

Well i’m in ireland and there are probably no people from ecuador here and although all the pubs will be showing the game, im quite happy with my ecuador flag draped outside my window and my ecuador shirt on. That’s all the atmosphere i need

Robbie,
Thanks for the support.

I believe a former Irish player and national team coach had an Ecuadorian father. Although he may have played and coached in Northern Ireland.
His last name is Sanchez. I read about him a long time ago when he became coach. His father somehow ended up in Ireland and married a nice Irish woman. For what I understand he decided to play for Ireland even if his dad wanted him to play for Ecuador.
