Valencia to Wigan!

August 4th, 2006 | By: Trent | 4 Comments »

Ecuador midfielder Luis Valencia is headed to Wigan Athletic of the English Premier League. Valencia, who turned heads at the World Cup this summer, is currently on contract with La Liga side Villareal, although he was previously on loan to fellow Spanish to flight side Recreativo de Huelva.

I’m pretty damn excited about this move. For one, it means I’ll get to see Valencia play a lot more next year. Second, if Valencia wasn’t going to get called back to Villareal, I think it’s a great move for him despite Recre’s promotion to La Liga.

Hm, I’m not sure he would fit into the Wigan style of play though. I think he would have been better off in Spain, without having to adapt to a new language and culture..great potential though, and I’ll love to have the chance to see him play more often.

The manager of Wigan stated that he wanted Valencia because one of their midfielders is injured. I think then, that Valencia will play more often in this Premiership club.
