Valencia Leads Best Young Player Vote
Ecuador midfielder Luis Valencia currently leads FIFA’s best young player poll. At least on the Spanish-language World Cup site. What I find most impressive is the other names near his on the list are superstar names that litter Champions League rosters, like Messi, Ronaldo, Park, Podolski, Rooney and the like. And those players have had less responsibility than has Valencia.
Some of them have only played a few minutes, so I’m sure they may overtake the 20-year-old Valencia as the tournament wears on. But kudos to Valencia for his great play this far.
Sadly, that Park on the poll isn’t Park Ji Sung (Manchester United), but Park Chu Young (FC Seoul). Park Chu Young hasn’t even seen the pitch yet (Dick Advocaat has opted for Ahn and Seol instead) but perhaps people are voting for him out of confusion?
