USA 3-1 Ecuador

March 25th, 2007 | By: Trent | 28 Comments »

Much more later, but Ecuador fell 1-3 to the US in a friendly played today in Florida. A goal from Felipe Caidedo wasn’t enough to overcome a hat trick from Landon Donovan (!!!). Initial reactions?

Err..Christian…I’m not from Australia. How did you figure that out? Anyway, I believe the thing that went wrong was the lack of definition. Ecuador crafted very interesting and dangerous moves, but did not capitalized them. It was pretty frustrating to see that opportunities wasted away. Add to that the impressive performance of Donovan (who, on the other side, DID score when he got the chance), and that is what you have.

I hope that for the match against Mexico, they pay much more attention to definition, or we’ll have a very bad time…again.

My mom saw the game at the stadium. She said that Ecuador didn’t play that well, but that Donovan’s 3rd goal was spectacular.

So, how good was this Ecuador team? The American TV announcers said that Ecuador was missing two very important players. Is this true? Were they very important?

For what it’s worth, I believe that this was the best USA team that we could have put together at this point in time. I said as much in the comments over on the USA blog, and I guess we’ll see if anyone disagrees with that.

Anyways — good game! See you in a few months.

rone, your mom was mostly right. In the first half, Ecuador seriously threatened the goal of Howard, but the second half and overall, USA was simply better. Personally, I liked more Donovan’s 2nd goal (was more personal and that sprint was stunning)

chuck, I don’t know exactly which players the TV announcers were talking about (a couple of them retired from the national team after the World Cup), but a great deal of the players in Sunday’s match were in Germany. We didn’t go to ‘experience’ with you, guys…

Ecuador wer missin the likes of Christian Benitez, El Diablito Lara, Franklin Salas and Mora even, they all play for teams dat r competin libertadores. They could have made a big difference in dat match and i hope dey can play against Mexico.

Mendez and Valencia wer disappointing but i liked Valencia’s through ball for De la Cruz to cross 2 Caicedo….hu missed.
Copa America is soon and i hope we can get far and even win it to show the world how good we are.

Muhammed your right… la cagada, but you win some you lose some. It was the defence’s fault.. U.S.A.’S first goal was simply an error. Hurtado header it right to donovan.

Only 3 players that did anyting were Tenorio, Caicedo, and Reasco.

I learned something watching the game yesterday. I learned that Reasco shouldn’t be playing for Sao Paulo… he should be playing in spain. I’m serious, this player is top class. Ambrossi could never take his place he not good enough.

And it looks like PSV is more important to mendez than his own country. That’s how it looked yesterday, didnt do a single thing, nothing.

And next time, Suarez should put Guagua in instead of Hurtado, whether hes captain or not!!!! he played like a bolivian defender yesterday, pushing everyone and almost breaking an american’s nose.

Come on guys, is only a friendly!!! This is the first time “la Tri” gets together since the world cup! They’re all playing abroad in different countries and therefore playing different football! It will take a few games before the lads find the rithm again……I hope!!! Yeah, a win would have been nice but we don’t want to give anything away at this stage, the aim of this excersice is to see what are we going to be facing during copa America……where it really counts!!!!!!!

You know I think Manu brought up an interesting thing there which I admit didnt really think about. Yes we have had those games since the world cup but not really a game with with our “A GAME TEAM” with that I mean a game where the new skills of our overseas players ie. Mendez, Valencia, Castillo, Tenorio and others have been able to apply with our Seleccion to use as a whole package :) and to look on the bright side our past form before big tournies only shows great things for us ;) remember the form before the world cup…. yes fellas the crtics im sure will be amping themselves for yet another wake up call to never doubt “OUR SELECCION” so once again bring on mexico and bring on the copa (not to mention the other friendlies!!!) SI SE PUEDE!! ;)

Damn :( I was really hoping they would scrape by and going from comments and the after match report its sounds like our mighty world cup defence seems to be struggling …and if I recall Espinoza made the vital error in the Friendly against Brasil also. well its hard to look up from here when we all had such high hopes for these 2 friendlies but at least we getting these issues out now rather then at the Copa we still have two more friendlies until then dont we?:)

Is our defence getting a bit too old???? De la Cruz, Hurtado, etc. Was Hurtado responsible for the first mexican Goal? Did he not clear the ball properly? Was not the same kind of mistake that gave the USA the first goal??? Why we lost that game???? Lost of concentration ??? What happened to Valencia? Did he play? They were doing very well, came up from behind to be winning 2-1 and then what???? Good combination between Mendez & Tenorio for the first ecuadorian goal though!!! I think we need to wake the defence up!!!! What about the keeper???? How did he do?is he good ??

Rorys Aragon is one of the best golkeepers we have. If you ask me, I take Mora out and put him in. He showed these past two friendlies that he’s capable of holding a clean sheet… if the defense were good!!!!

Ive just watched the video posted for the goals and a few highlighs of the game…. and to be honest the 3rd and 4th goal in my opinion was just poor defence maybe it is coming from lack of concentration or extremely poor MARKING!! I mean when a striker can just come and tap the ball in like that you gotta blame the defence :( which is sad for us because it was really what got us through in the WC and gave England hell. I think Rorys Aragon played very well and from the highlights shows much more promise then Mora so well done :) Our goals were great!! but hey like I mentioned in another blog we lost to Poland in a friendly before the WC and they came out full of confidence and showed us little respect………..well they payed the price ;)
