The Red Card
What’s the deal with Luis Antonio Valencia’s red card? With Ecuador leading Brazil 1-0 in Tuesday’s friendly encounter, the Swedish referee showed a straight red to Val after he elbowed Dudu in the chest. Dudu was instructing Val on how to utilize a headlock when the elbow came a’ callin’. Dudu went straight to the pitch as if he’d been snipered.
For whatever reason, I believe that the ref saw not Dudu’s behavior but rather the retaliatory elbow. I thought the red was harsh for a friendly, but reasonable if the ref had not seen Dudu’s actions. Although, surely the ref could guess that Dudu was acting to a great degree.
To be fair, most sources recognize that Dudu was elbowed in the chest but fell cluthcing–what else–his face. Either way, the card decided the match, plain and simple. At least, that’s my opinion. Accoring to Brazil coach Dunga, it’s actually more difficult to play with a man advanatge. Um….right. That’s why coaches love for their players to get red cards.
Lastly, although the announcers were all about Brazil on the feed I saw, they did resist the urge to point out that Dudu and Kaka were on the pitch at the same time. Showed some restraint and all.

I think the red card was a disasterous injustice. Does anyone else think that Sweden wanted to see a Brazil win (and they were losing 1-0 at the time which could have easily been 2-0 if it weren’t for a crossbar)?
Does anyone know if the Toronto game is still on? I need more researchers to help find out if it’s happening.

Hi Ecuadorian friends ![]()
I see Deportivo Quito - Aucas play today. Can Aucas win? They need win to stay in 1st league, do they? Odds on Aucas are great, can they win? Thanks ![]()

They have won, but Aucas is not a team I’m rooting for. There are four teams in the capital, and Quito has to get rid of some of them. Aucas is the first choice for me, but Dep. Azogues is now last place due to a goleada de Emelec… 3-0.

Do you think that Liga will let Dep. Azogues to win today because of that?????
What’s your opinion about today’s matches? Who will win?

Jose: I don’t know about Liga / Azogues, but Barcelona just got hammered by El Nacional 6-1. Ouch. Awesome win for Los Militares.

El Simon, my north-of-the-border friend, I don’t know why info on this alleged match is so scarce.
Another way to put that is, sorry, no, I don’t know any more than you do.

Thanks Trent - hopefully we hear something soon.

Really sorry, Simon, but I just heard that that match against Colombia has been suspended by FEF. Check it out on http://www.ecuafutbol.org but sorry anyway. I’m disappointed.

I just remembered… LDU Quito has lost to Azogues. What the heck is wrong with them?????
