Suarez Meets with El Nine
It appears that Ecuador Coach Luis Suarez met with Ecuadorian international Ivan Kaviedes last week in Argentina. Kaviedes, known as El Nine, has been involved in several shenanigans lately, but recently returned to the pitch for his club side, Argentinos Juniors.
Word is, Coach Suarez travelled to Argentina to tell Kaviedes in person where he stood with Suarez and the national team. El Nine in turn represented to Suarez that he never meant to deceive the Argentine press. In other words, both parties tried to kiss and make up.
I’d like to take two positives from this: (1) Suarez continues to show that he will do what he can to construct the best selection possible, but not at the expense of the team’s dignity, and (2) El Nine may be coming around, realizing what he needs to do to make the World Cup roster and salvage his reputation. At least, that’s the way I’m choosing to read it. What do you think?
