Some Pan Am Redemption

July 24th, 2007 | By: Trent | 20 Comments »

Although the Copa America flameout is still a recent memory, Ecuador’s (mostly) young guns have acquitted themselves very nicely at the Pan American Games being held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

In fact, La Tricolor Jóvenes have advanced to the Gold Medal Final against Jamaica on Friday.

Good luck Ecuador…si se puede!

UPDATE: Here’s the team’s coach, Sixto Vizuete, commenting on the team’s tactical approach. Is that counterattack more like what Luis Fernando Suarez used last summer and went away from too much at Copa America? Seems so to me. I’d ask LFS himself, but his website is conveniently being renovated all of a sudden.

I did not see the game but I heard we played better against Brazil. Now we have to win Jamaica. THis will be a first if we win the gold.

These young guys are the future for Ecuador!

Orlando,
I think Ecuador has a very good chance to win the game on Friday afternoon. I am only afraid that they will be overconfident and play bad. Look at what happened with Argentina vs Brazil in Copa America. The Argentinians should have won. They lost because Brazil played better but I think Argentina was confident they could beat Brazil.

It would be great for Ecuador to finally win a tournament and get a gold medal. Hopefully this young talent could propel Ecuadorean soccer to a higher level.

bye

Ecuador v. Jamaica? Wow, interesting final.

The first football match I actually went to was actually the 2003 PanAmerican Games football final.. My friends rooted for Argentina and I for Brazil.

Argentina beat Brazil 1-0, but I’ve been an die-hard Brazil fan ever since :)

Man, has anyone seen Deixon Mendez play? He’s great at defence. He reminds me of a young Ivan Hurtado if you ask me.

But this guy Israel Chango… well lets just say he needs work. His attack is good but hes giving me heart attacks in the back.

And last of all that golazo by Delgado really made me jump and shout. That kid put his heart into that game. I think that Suarez would do well to try out some of these new hopeful youth.

KN,
I agree Suarez should try this new talent. I have one better. How about if Vizuete replaces Suarez? Vizuete is from home town Latacunga and he appears to have the winning mentality and leadership?

Just a thought

I think Suarez should go fly all the way to Rio and watch the final because he’s going to see some “real” talent.

Leon, you usually have the best analysis for our seleccion but Vizuete for Suarez? No thank you. I know we all been waiting for a compatriota to lead our team but Vizuete don’t got it I think. Like I said theres still problems with the Sub-18 over in Rio.

Hey did anybody hear? Antonio Valencia scored for Wigan yesterday? They say it was a golazo.

Kn,
I wont disagree with you but lets see this Friday. I hope our team wins. I did hear about Valencia’s goal. I believe Wigan played a “B” team

Whoa, el cangurito Borja scored for Olympiakos, and Mendez, de la Cruz, la sombra Espinoza and Jose Valencia from Willem II have appeared for their clubs too. Not bad especially after a bad Copa America.

Orlando,
I agree with you it was incredible game! It was truly a nail biting. I look at these young guys and they play like Tin, Kaviedes, Mendes. some of the young players were awesome. I hope they start getting lucrative contracts.

Viva Ecuador Carajo!

Yo this guy Pablo Ochoa is great!!! What a historic win for our seleccion!! We are champions of the Americas in the youth section. Does that say anything about our chances for qualifying for South Africa or maybe even passing the round of sixteen????

I think that Edmundo Zura would do well to get a contract with Flamengo in Brasil… first of all I had no idea how much technique he had and then he is used to playing in the Maracana already. :) I hope he becomes regular in our seleccion de mayores.
