Prediction Time

La Tri are fast asleep in their beds. Coach Suarez has tucked away his chalkboard. El Tin is ensconced in his bubble wrap nightgown. We’re only 17 hours away from kickoff of Ecuador v. Poland. What will be the result? Let’s hear what you have to say.

Me, I’m stuck on Ecuador 1-1 Poland. Not very exciting, nor very gutsy, but I think it would be a very strong showing for Ecuador. They’d get the point and stay well in contention for a spot in the second round.

I look for Ecuador to score first, with Poland finally grinding out a second-half goal. The Ecuador goal will be netted by…oh…let’s say…Carlos Tenorio. He may still be a little hampered, but I think he’ll muscle one out.

This is all idle speculation of course. I wouldn’t be surprised if Poland won, or if Ecuador won. A loss for Ecuador would obviously not eliminate them from contention, but it would likely be a step in that direction. Hopefully they’ll pull one out, and I’ll be happily incorrect.

My brother in law is Ecuadorian so I’m hoping that the team does well. However, against Poland? That’s a tough team to up against right from the start. At least they aren’t playing Germany first! :p Go Ecuador!

You are forgetting 2002 when Poland was also dismissed by the Americans before the game with the USA team, and then DEMOLISHED the US 3-1.
it’s either 1:1 (not good) or 2:1 Poland. the best measure is to check with trading sports QLI site. They have Poland’s chance for advancing at 61% (Germany at 90%). QLI predicted Bush will defeat Kerry in 2004 - I trust peoples’ money sense.

WOW! Congrats Ecuador, quite an amazing victory. They aree out to prove something indeed. Certainly no one predicted 2-0 victory over the Polish!
No doubt Ecuador will move onto the next round and let us look forward to their match against Germany.
The Poles might as well have had homecourt advantage being that they are right acrossed the border. Germany can’t count on that as an advantage anymore and, without a doubt, have to be concerned. Not just because of Ecuador, but because they’ll be facing a desperate Pole team as well. Will Ecuador make the host team the group runner-up? Time will tell, but I’m a believer now.
