Outside Predictions
I haven’t spent much time discussing outside predictions for Ecuador v. England, but you can imagine what they are. Ecuador enter Sunday’s match as heavy underdogs. Sports Illustrated’s take is representative of those predictions.
More importantly, we’ll all discuss our own predictions here later.

Ha ha. Wonderful. Sports Illustrated’s website says this about Ecuador’s chances against the Brits :”What Lies Ahead: Ninety minutes of football against England and a plane ride home.”
All I say is let them put us down. Let them say all they want. Let them ignore us. Let them takes us for granted. Let them bet on how many goals England will score against us… On the field, there will be eleven English players against over 13 million Ecuadorian hearts. These Ecuadorian players didn’t come from a rich economic background. Although parts of Liverpool are bad, they do not even begin to compare with the poverty of the towns some of our heroes com from. They know about adversity first hand. first we had 500 years of virtual slavery by the Spaniards in which our Inca, Quitu, Guayas, Imbaya, Salasaca culture was methodically erased under the guise of Christianity and a supposed superiority of the White race. Native Ecuadorians and Blacks became lower tier citizens and sometimes were even considered by their masters less valuable than animals. Most of our soccer warriors come from Esmeraldas and El Valle del Chota(http://telva.elmundo.es/mundial/2006/2006/05/24/grupo_a/1148468563.html)
, a predominantly Afro-Ecuadorian and extremely poor part of our country that was blessed with soccer talent. This Sunday we are going to play for more than the marbles. The Ecuadorian players’ feet are going to dance to the rhythm of Bomba, Saltashpa, Sanjuanito and whatever the outcome, we already made history. If “El Tin”, “Teno”, “Valencia” and the rest play to their potential, we are going to cause that England learn this Quichua phrase said by many Incas when Atahualpa, the Quito Inca Prince was murdered by the Spaniard Conquistadors “TAUPI PUNCHAPI TUTAYACA” (It became dark in the middle of the day)(http://www.cncultura.gov.ec/cultura/HTML/ANOCHECIOATAHUALPA.HTM).Good luck England…y a JUGAR CON TODO EL CORAZON DE UN PUEBLO QUE TE EMPUJA MI SELECCION ECUATORIANA!!!!
