Only El Tin Confirmed for Roster
Ecuador’s World Cup roster will be released this week by Coach Luis Suarez. So far, the only player which Suarez has publicly confirmed will be on the final roster is LDU Quito striker Augustin Delgado. Clearly, Ecuador will pin their hopes in no small part on El Tin’s goal-producing ability.

Coach Suarez is making a tactical blunder if he plans on resting El Tri’s scoring hopes on El Tin. His performances in recent La Liga games suggests this isn’t the same Delgado that was as deadly on the ground as he is through the air. He’s left out of every attack, unless the 6′2 giant manages to fly under the radar and sneak in a header.
Kind of troubling, but Ecuador’s best scoring chances will have to come from the midfielders. Power-kickers like Edison Mendez and Antonio Valencia won’t have the benefit of Quito’s thin air to rip shots through, but their experience in WC Qualifers should keep them well-grounded. I’d like to see startups like Christhian Benitez or Dallas forward Mina make some noise and bring the style of play that they demonstrate on the club level to Germany.

Good points, Dar. I think Liga’s recent run in the Copa Libertadores has been all the more remarkable because El Tin hasn’t done much other than draw attention away from the other attacking players.
I would like to see C. Tenorio, Mina and maybe Borja play off of El Tin this summer.

Right on cue, El Tin scored tonight (5/6) for Liga in their draw with El Nacional.

Trent, you’re right, C. Tenorio, Mina, Borja and even Kaviedes had better seasons than Tin. two of the four should be starting instead of Tin.

Leo, good point, I meant to put El Nine on that list, too.
