Okay. We’re Beyond Peripatetic at This Point

We’ve called brilliant Ecuadorian forward Ivan Kaviedes peripatetic. We’ve admitted he’s a bit of a head case. Right on cue, Kaviedes has all but inked a deal to leave Argentinos Juniors and join Deportivo Cuenca of the Ecuadorian national league top flight. Although ‘top flight’ is a transitory status, innit? After all, Cuenca are currently dead last in the premier league table. What will this move mean for all interested parties?

Kaviedes currently plays in Buenos Aires for Argentinos Juniors, Diego Maradona’s first big club. El Nine has also played for Porto (Portugal), Puebla (Mexico), Crystal Palace (England) and Ecuadorian sides Deportivo Quito and Barcelona (de Guayaquil), and he’s a huge Emelec fan from way back. In other words, Kaviedes is no novice when it comes to globetrotting. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if eventually El Nine, through a typographical error, ends up being on three teams at once.

What this will mean for Cuenca: As Los Colorados now sit last in the table, adding a player of Kaviedes’ (albeit tempestuous) talent is always a good thing. Avoiding relegation is now a possibility.

What this will mean for Kaviedes and La Tri: El Nine will now be assured of playing as many matches as possible leading up to the World Cup. This will allow him to be in form, and allow Ecuadorian gaffer Luis Suarez to get a good look at Kaviedes before choosing his final squad.
