My Lineup, Your Lineup

June 6th, 2006 | By: Trent | 9 Comments »

It’s nearly d-day, time to share our preferred starting XI for the match against Poland on Friday. Here’s my current take:

…………………………Mora……………………….
De la Cruz, Hurtado, Espinoza, Guagua
Mendez, Castillo, Valencia, E. Tenorio
……….….Kaviedes, Tenorio………………..

It’s not easy to leave El Tin off of this list, but if he doesn’t start–and I expect him to–he can always come on as a great sub.

Let’s hear it–what’s your starting XI?

Well I was looking through some sites. I think it was el universo. They said Neicer Reasacos is going to start not Guagua. And I didn’t see Carlos Tenerio’s name. how sad

To be honest i dont even think Suarez knows who he’s gonna start. He’s probably dusting off Alberto Spencer and Eduardo Hurtado as we speak. Him and his surprises.

My starting 11:

GK: Mora
Defense: de la Cruz, Hurtado, Espinoza, Reascos

MF: Castillo, Tenorio, Mendez, Valencia, Kaviedes

Striker: Tenorio

I like Kaviedes just behind Tenorio; not quite a midfielder but not up front as a striker. He’s creative and makes good plays but isn’t the finisher he once was.

Delgado hasn’t been the same since the knee operations. He’s still incredible in the air but he’ll be so tightly marked I can’t see him sneaking one in against Poland.

Against CR, Ecuador can afford to be more technical and set up plays. But against Poland they’ll need to counter-attack and transition offense to defense without getting too extravagant. That’s why I wanna see Castillo in there instead of Ayovi. The Nacionalistas (Guagua, Lara and Borja) would make good second-half subs; they’ll add energy and synergy to the team and should carry us through to a narrow 1-0 win.

*Disclaimer* one goof on the defensive end will spell disaster for Ecuador, especially if it happens early. I hope Suarez packed ritilin cos these boys need to concentrate for a full 90 minutes.

Guys, where have you all been all this time?
You know that GUAGUA is a full back and that REASCO doesn’t play on the left side.
MORA UDCRUZ HURTADO ESPINOZA AMBROSSI
VALENCIA CASTILLO TENORIO MENDEZ
KAVIEDES TIN

you’re right reascos’ real position is on the right wing but he played like several qualies on the left when Ambrossi wasn’t up to it. He can’t possibly play on the right when de la Cruz is healthy and Reascos has been outplaying Ambrossi for the left wing throughout friendlies but if you still don’t believe me check this out http://msn.foxsports.com/soccer/story/5671290

and tin shouldnt start unless he can bring his crutch onto the pitch, from what i’ve heard he’s been doing his best Tiny Tim impression all through practice

dar, that Fox Sports article says that Suarez will release the full starting lineup on Sunday. Even for Suarez, that’s a bit late!

haha great, just in time for the SECOND qualifer.

Just wanted to make the point that Neicer plays the left wing, as the article suggested. he is normally a right-winger for LDU, though.

Reascos has been training with Suarez to start on the left side. He doesn’t yet feel as comfortable but he certainly understands how to play that position better than Ambrossi, despite the side he is acostumed to. I think that if he manages to develop well in both sides could become an amazing playmaker. I like more Tenorio and Delgado to start up in this particular match. Tenorio I think would be able to pass through the Polish defense more efficiently. Kaviedes should start with Costa Rica where his creativity with the ball will efficiently work out against them. Mendez, Hurtado and Valencia should be our main spine and I hope to see them inspired together. Lara and Kaviedes should be against Poland our key subs to change our pace in the second half and stun the Polish with faster and individual plays.
I have a good feeling against Poland! Vamos Ecuador!

Antonio, you bring up an interesting point. I.e., Might the stronger, tougher Tenorio fare better against the Poles, while El Nine is better suited to a team like Costa Rica?

Hard to say. You’d like to think that Suarez would just pick the best lineup and go from there, but it seems that LFS has something up his sleeve for this tournament.

I hope!
