“Most Important Tackle Ever”
Was Ashley Cole’s effort to nick Carlos Tenorio’s 10th-minute shot against England–a shot which hit the crossbar thanks to Cole–merely a magnificent defensive play or was it the “most important tackle ever”.
Well, I know what they mean. And it was a great play that without a doubt saved England from going down early 1-0. Fair play to Cole.
This photograph from Reuters shows the scene just before Cole got his leg on the ball.

I’m sorry but that was the defensive play of the tournament, and I was pulling for Ecuador. That was a definite goal had his leg not barely deflected the shot.

So he got in the way, but I really can’t see what Ashley Cole brings to the team. He can’t tackle or head, he’s not particularly fast and he often passes to players under more pressure than he is. When he very occasionally runs at players he normally falls over. He slows the game down where England benefit from a fast game. His attitude is bad: frequently calls the ref a ****ing ***ker which the whole world sees and thinks “That’s the English”.
