More Tales of Great Ulises
Aston Villa and Ecuador right-back Ulises De la Cruz hopes that his recent appearance for the English Premier League team portends good things for his goal of being sharp for this summer’s World Cup. De la Cruz, who started out gangbusters when he joined Aston Villa a few years ago, has been a virtual no-show for the Birmingham club this season. But this past weekend, UDLC played some 67 minutes against Portsmouth.
UDLC played all 90 minutes for Ecuador in their friendly against the Netherlands in Amsterdam Arena on March 1. Because of his recent stay on the Villa bench, UDLC is desperate to get as much game-time play as possible so as to not enter the World Cup rusty. Said Ulises:
The weekend was my first Villa game for five months. It was good to be involved and the fans were great. Ecuador have three more games before the World Cup and that is good because it gives me some football. What I need more than anything is games. So hopefully David O’Leary will pick me because I need games to prepare, but he hasn’t said anything to me. I’ve played the odd reserve match, but regular football will help me become sharper.
UDLC is a class player and deserves either more playing time at Aston Villa, or a free transfer as soon as possible. Come on, Villa.
