Mendez Extends PSV Deal
Ecuador midfielder Edison Mendez has extended his deal with PSV Eindhoven through 2010. The Dutch club has purchased his rights on the strength of his play so far in the Eredivisie and the Champions League. Schweet!
Question: Is Edison already the most successful-ever Ecua player in Europe?

Actually tennis play Nicolas Lapentti bagged Anna Kournikova, making him Ecuador’s most successful player ever in Europe AND our top “scorer.” Anywho, congrats to Kinito Mendez!

mr. chris,
the next international will probably be Giovanni Espinoza. He’s set to play in America (in Mexico). KN mentioned La Panterita Benitez making the leap overseas to play in Zagreb, while El Mago Salas may land in Holland, if he can pass medicals.
no Australa-Ecua clash just yet, but Ecuador is scheduled to play Sweden in the new year. they’ll play twice: first in cuenca and then in quito three days later.

Edison is for real with PSV. I am not sure if I hope he starts an exodus of Ecuadorian talent to Europe or not. It is great to go to Casa Blanca when I am in Quito but also I really enjoy seeing Mendez and Valencia on TV more often.
Trent, please feel free to edit this part of the message if you feel it is not in the spirit of your blog but I’d like to put up the link to the charity I was talking about a couple months back. They are raising funds to help children in Chimborazo. They are collecting used and new equipment and also money to buy land for a new pitch and to help offset costs of shipping everything to Ecuador. I have organized a game with the charity to raise awareness and funds that is being played in tropical Canada on Dec 3rd.
Here is the link to donate:

NICE this is an awesome test for La Tri. I’m convinced they are unbeatable in Quito. Let’s just hope Reascos and Valencia are healthy for those friendlies so we can see our team at full strength.
