Manager Pay: Is Suarez Worth It?

Did Ecuador coach Luis Suarez earn his nearly 1/2 million dollar salary this year? I have to think he did. The goal was to get Ecuador to the second round. That he did. And wherever you live, $500,000 is a lot of lettuce.

By comparison, England gaffer Sven-Goran Eriksson, who is winning games if not fans, makes nearly $10,000,000.00 a year. That’s twenty times the salary, for a one-goal win over Ecuador. It costs more to live in London than it does Quito (or Medallin), but crickey. How hard is it to get England to the quarterfinals?

For a real deal, how about Jurgen Klinsmann, making only one-tenth of Eriksson’s salary?

So, did Suarez earn his keep?

Great Topic.

I do believe he earned his pay, but I’m sure his salary will go up next month.

As a result, the expectations on the team will be much higher…as they should be.
Right now all Ecuadorians are proud of the team. They did more than expected and made history. However, the team looked slow and scared against Germany and England.
For Suarez to earn his new salary the team will need to “take it to the next level”.

I think he’s worth his pay. Obviously he makes pennies compared to Sven Goran Erickson. Maybe a better comparison would be to Argentina’s, Mexico’s or Paraguay’s coaches.

In any case, I think he succeeded at what he set out to do. Now let’s see what happens in Copa America. Will the love affair with Suarez last?
