Luna Arrested
Saturday we featured a heartwarming story of when footballers help to enhance the society in which they are adored and enriched. Unfortunately, not every story is so rosy. General Coordinator of the Ecuadorian Selection and former team captain, Vinicio Luna, has been arrested upon suspicion of human trafficking.
Details are still somewhere fuzzy, but at the very least it seems that Luna was peddling ‘visas’ to the United States to desperate Ecuadorians at over $10,000.00 a pop. Luna’s lawyer has yet to release a statement on behalf of his client, but this story is sure to unfold over the next several days.
Not that this is the most important effect, but this is not the type of distraction your team needs to deal with while preparing for the World Cup. I hasten add that Luna is innocent until proven otherwise, but this is not the type of behavior needed in Ecuadorian football or sports in general. In fact, it just plain sucks.
