Long Plane Ride Back for Liga
Today Liga played Tokyo FC for the Suruga Bank Championship.The Suruga Bank Championship is a annual football intercontinental match contested by the reigning champions of the J. League Cup and the Copa Sudamericana. Liga saw the trophy slip away from their hands in stoppage time. Ecuadorian League’s current top scorer, Hernan Barcos scored the first goal with a fine individual effort. Tokyo FC’s goal came courtesy of Alexander Domiguez, he parried a long effort and left it right in the hands of Sota Hirayama who smashed it in with ease. Liga’s second goal came in form of a penalty that was called when Jorge Guagua was brought down in the box and was scored by Patricio Urrutia. Right into stoppage time Tokyo FC leveled the game courtesy this time of Diego Calderon who wasn’t aware that Masashi Oguro ran past him and level the match. Liga ended up losing the match and trophy on penalties which ended 4-3. In the end the goalkeeping and defensive errors of Liga decided the winners of this match.
