LDU Quito 3-1 Emelec

April 14th, 2006 | By: Trent | 5 Comments »

Last week I gave Emelec fans an early chance to gloat, so it’s only fair that Liga supporters like El Simon get their chance this time around. LDU Quito beat Emelec 3-1 today in Ibarra, behind goals from Edison Mendez, Giovanny Espinoza and Patricio Urrutia. Emelec tacked on a meaningless goal in the 90th minute by Noboa, but the match was never really in doubt. Liga will spend at least another week all alone in first place.

Man I´m really sad right now, but anyways we´ll support our team next weekend against Aucas because our enhanced stadium will now opern the doors of the new part of the George Capwell stadium.

boca del pozo–
Have you seen the new part of the estadio that going to be opened? It’s supposed to be pretty sweet.

Thanks for the Liga shout out Trent!! I would gloat but being in first place right now is sweet and I wouldnt want to jinx the good form Liga is in at the moment… especially when they make up a good chunk of the WC starting XI.

El Simon–

You know, I’ve wondered if any other WC particpant has so many potential starters playing for the same club side.

With a good but certainly not great domestic league, coupled with the lack of players in Europe, most dismiss Ecuador’s chances. But hopefully with so many players playing for Liga and getting in synch with one another, they can use that to a great advantage.

You gotta find it where you can!

I have tried thinking of the same thing but I’m not sure if I can name a side. I am unfamiliar with the African sides and Asian sides but I don’t think I can name a side that could field 5 or 6 starters from 1 club team.

I hope it is a huge advantage for Ecuador. It should help at the group stage at least as teams try to get to learn each other. Edison Mendez seems to play a similar role for both sides so hopefully he is healthy and in-form for the WC.
