Klinsmann Still Ruffling Feathers

March 6th, 2006 | By: Trent | No Comments »

Jurgen Klinsmann, coach for Ecuador’s Group A foes Germany, is still making friends and influencing people as the World Cup steadily approaches. This time, German legend Franz Beckenbauer has criticized Klinsmann for skipping out on the FIFA coaches workshop being held in Germany this week. As already mentioned, Ecuador gaffer Luis Suarez is in attendance.

Klinsmann instead has elected to remain at his home in the United States. Der Kaiser sez Klinsmann

should have been here. This is a meeting he had to make and there are not too many of them. Of course he can go to the United States to see his family but he needs to spend most of his time here in Germany ahead of the World Cup. I do not know how many times I have spoken with him about it but clearly there is no point. If he can handle the criticism then fine.

Hmm. That doesn’t seem like the vote of confidence I’d be looking for if my team had just been humiliated by Italy 4-1. Could it be that Klinsmann is on thin ice, even at this late date? As always, check our German blog for more in-depth news and analysis on Ecuador’s Group A rivals.
