Kaviedes and Tenorio Dust-Up?

May 25th, 2006 | By: Trent | 2 Comments »

Sources say Ecuador strikers Ivan Kaviedes, shown at right against Colombia, and Carlos Tenorio had an altercation in training camp that survived into the team’s time in New Jersey for the friendly against Colombia. Of course, stuff like this happens all the time on football teams; let’s hope it’s just one of those things that blows over.

I will say that, even as a big supporter of Kaviedes making the World Cup roster, I personally thought he became quick to excite as the match wore on. I also think that’s one of the reasons Coach Suarez subbed him when he did in the second half. Who knows. And maybe Tenorio saw the writing on the wall–he may not start at all in Germany. On the other hand, it’s sort of the media’s job to blow these things out of proportion, isn’t it?

boys will be boys! Not that i’d want it to happen, but i take carlitos by KO.

As for Kaviedes, good observation: he just didn’t look the part of a player that had spent a lot of time on the field. He had the goods but was getting caught up in the moment.

[...] Will whatever happened between Ivan Kaviedes and Edwin Tenorio affect the team next month? Media haven’t said much about it, although it’s been reported here, here and here. Leave it to the English football press to declare: “Bust-up Rocks Ecuador Camp.” Isn’t there a metatarsal x-ray they should be wailing over? [...]
