Jose +10: Whose Fake Adidas Team is Better?
Who’s in the semis, who’ll win the Golden Boot—important, sure, but now’s Ecuador’s out, let’s take a look at the lighter side of the tournament.
During the 2002 World Cup, my favorite television commercial was the Coca-Cola spot that aired in North America, featuring two friends in (I’d guess) Mexico City meeting up each middle-of-the-night to watch that day’s World Cup matches. Pretty cool.
This time around, I’m partial to the adidas “+ 10” ad featuring Jose and his chubby lil’ buddy.
There’s really no way that you haven’t seen these ads yet. Two kids in Spain—Jose and his, well, chubby buddy—chose sides for a pretend football match in the alley behind Jose’s home. They don’t choose other kids, of course. Instead, they choose any and every superstar they can think of. This includes players well past their prime that show up courtesy of CGI magic. Your Beckenbauers and Platinis for example.
I think the background song is by Jim Noir (”If I don’t get my football back, I’m gonna get my dad on you.”). At any rate, as far as I can tell the rosters are as follows:
Jose
Beckenbauer
Kaka (eventually sent to the bench by an exasperated Jose)
Beckham
Kahn
Riquelme
Duff
Ballack
Schweinsteiger
Chubby Buddy
Platini
Zidnane
Cissse
Defoe (as the reluctant keeper)
Messi
Raul
Gerrard
Robben
Lampard
Viera
If I’ve got these wrong, please let me know. I know there’s not complete. Anyway…who’s the top team in your opinion? Out of all these, who would win?
(a) Jose
(b) Chubby Buddy
(c) Draw
(d) Other
Answer: (d) Other. The winner is Jose’s mama. When mama says playtime’s over, it’s over.

Soy Capitan. I love that commercial as well. Who would be on Trent + 10?
The commercial I hate (for fellow Canadians) is the omni-present Rogers Wireless. It’s about these kids who go to germany and cant get tickets because who knew the whole world shows up but then realizes the best place to watch the world cup is whereever your friends are. This just proves they didnt pony up for tickets and the best place to watch the world cup if you are cheap and in germany is whereever your friends are. boo to rogers.
Sorry for the rant. Real question is: Trent + 10?

Haha, that’s so true about Jose’s mom. Don’t you just love that Adidas commerical.
And yea, i know that rogers commercial, it’s stupid, i agree. I’ve tried to find it on the internet, but it didn’t seem to appear anywhere…

I think that Pedro’s team would win as they’re up a player from the start…not only that but Jose leaves Duff on the bench!
Great advert though. Football’s the real winner!
