Is This Fight a Big Deal?

May 27th, 2006 | By: Trent | 3 Comments »

Will whatever happened between Ivan Kaviedes and Edwin Tenorio affect the team next month? Media haven’t said much about it, although it’s been reported here, here and here. Leave it to the English football press to declare: “Bust-up Rocks Ecuador Camp.” Isn’t there a metatarsal x-ray they should be wailing over?

At any rate, it just doesn’t seem like a big deal to me. We all know these things happen from time to time on athletic teams of all stripes. It’s not a good idea for El Nine to try and prove his critics right by imploding before the World Cup even begins, I’ll grant you that. But is this really something for Ecua fans to worry about? Or have a I just become a Kaviedes apologist?

Good to see that as you predicted Kaviedes would keep things interesting. I think I’d prefer not to see my players beat each other up, but unless you are there and part of the time you never know the full story. Maybe they are hanging out in German pub right now laughing about it.

Good point, Bob–at this point it’s all conjecture anyway. EL Nine once scored 42 goals in a single season for Ecuador, and on Wednesday night I could see some of those flashes of great play-making ability.

If he and Agustin Delgado can stay sane and fit, they could be the strikeforce needed to make a surprise second-round appearance.

Ohhhh it’s Edwin. I was thinking Carlitos. No surprise then. Edwin would pick a fight with his shadow if he felt it looked at him the wrong way
