Is Suarez TRYING to Drive Me Crazy?
Tinkering and waffling is no way to soothe fans’ nerves. Look–I like Ecuador coach Luis Suarez. I think he’s a good guy and a good coach. But lately, it’s as if he going out of his way to make me nervous.
And yes, I DO think the world revolves around me.
Not really. But I am slightly worried at the pre-Cup preparations and friendlies Suarez has scheduled. Today, Ecuador played a select team of German college players, and won 4-3. Clearly, this was an experimental game that Suarez was using for reasons other than winning. I get that.
Nevertheless, the unwillingness to name a starting XI seems a little weird. I concede that it may be Suarez’ way of throwing of his Group A opponents. But when half of the team’s goals today were scored by a promising young player who’s not even on the roster, you can understand my trepidation.
Regarding today’s scrimmage, Suarez said that defensive mistakes troubled him again, as they did against Macedonia. But by not starting several defensive mainstays, this seems an expected outcome. Suarez also noted that he was worried about the progress of Agustin Delgado’s perma-inury. Who knows what his status is.
Truth be told, I think there’s a 50-50 chance Suarez is just messing around, and that he knows what he’s doing. Am I right? Or am I crazy?

Ecuador’s strength lays on its team structure. I think you’re right trend, he does not want his opponents to figure out how he’s going to play. I know this team very well and I still don’t know what he has in mind, so for the other teams it must be necessarily harder to figure that out.

I’m officially scared and that’s not good. I think you need to have a couple games of preseason (much like American Football) for the players to mesh. You can’t throw them all in against Poland and think they will mesh miracoulously. My yellow flag is officially up. I sure hope Suarez knows what he is doing.
trying to keep the faith,

What makes me nervous is that Delgado hasn’t played in the friendlies. More than trying to throw opponents-off, I think it is a reflection of his injury. The opening match of the World Cup is certainly not the time to find out how the starting eleven will perform together.

and here: http://www.thebestofecuador.com/qentertain.htm

Edward, for any matches, specially England matches check out this bar:
Turtle’s Head
La Niña 626 y Amazonas
Tel: 593-2-256-5544
For Ecuador games just go to La Mariscal, especially La plaza Fosch and let the crowd lead you. Every single bar should be packed and with a great atmosphere. You are going to have a fantastic time!
