In a Perfect World

Ecuador’s unfortunate results have left us with a miniscule chance of qualifying for the third consecutive time to the World Cup. Many Ecuadorians such as myself lay awake at night and think, “What if Julio Cesar didn’t do all those amazing saves during the Ecuador vs Brazil game, what if we beat Venezuela,Paraguay and Colombia at home and Argentina away as we truly deserved to?”

Well I whipped up some of my photoshop magic and saw if this was to happen:

Here is Ecuador’s current position

And now is the one where we won the games we were suppose to:

In this table Ecuador beat Venezuela, Colombia & Paraguay home 1-0, Beat Argentina away, and beat Brazil 3-0 (we should have)
Note: There might be some minor caluclation errors here and there but the main positions of the tables are still the same.

Shocking isn’t it? We would be on top with one foot in South Africa already. It is fun to dream but don’t give up hope just yet, even though its unlikely, it is still mathematically possible for Ecuador to still go to the World Cup. Si Se Puede!

Could you go further into depth as to why it’s so difficult for Ecuador to qualify? They’re only three points from a qualification spot, and only need Uruguay to slip up TWICE in six games… And that’s including an Ecuador x Uruguay qualifier at home. Ok, I know that means that Ecuador has to be very efficient (and two of the ties are against Bolivia and Peru, the bottom dwellers right now). Is there something else I’m missing?
