How Ecuador Can Qualify on Thursday

With Germany’s defeat of Poland, there is now one clear way for Ecuador to qualify for the second round tomorrow. If–and hey, it’s always a big if–they defeat Costa Rica, then it’s Ecuador and Germany in the second round. The only thing left to decide would be who’s first and who’s second.

With a draw or a loss, Ecuador is still alive, although it would be an enormous boost to be able to head into the Germany game without having to get any certain result. Tomorrow, Ecuador will have to take it to Costa Rica; sitting back and waiting for the Ticos to make the move could be a recipe for disaster.
