Home Sweet Home: Ecuador League Week 9
It was a good week for the home teams in week 9 of the Ecuadorian top flight. Details after the jump.
On Saturday, El Nacional defeated Deportivo Cuenca 4-1. It was a bit of a beatdown at the Olimpico Atahualpa, as Los Militares continued their goal-friendly ways. El Nacional now sit atop the table (after LDU Quito lost on Sunday), while Cuenca are still comfortably at the bottom. Looks like Los Colorados could use El Nine ASAP. Goals for El Nacional by Ebelio Ordóñez ‘25, Danny Vera ‘52, Walter Ayoví ‘60, and Ebelio Ordóñez ‘88; goal for Cuenca by Ezequiel Scarione ‘89.
On Sunday, Macara surprised LDU Quito 1-0. Liga slipped from the league lead after El Nacional picked up three points on Saturday. Macara continue their impressive run this season, now just one point out of third place. Former LDU Quito man Luis Miguel Garces did the damage against his old squad in the 78th minute.
Deportivo Quito defeated Emelec 2-1 after Luis Fernando Saritama broke a 1-1 draw with his second goal in the 69th minute. With the win, Quito pulled ahead of Emelec to sit in fifth place in the table.
Olmedo scored early and went on to a convincing 3-1 win against visiting Aucas. Olmedo and Aucas remained in third and seventh place in the table, respectively. Oscar Bagui (’3), José Luis Perlaza (’57), and Freddy Samaniego (’61) found the net for Olmedo, while Pablo Palacios (52’) scored from the spot for Aucas.
Barcelona notched its third win of the season by defeating Espoli 1-0 in Guayaquil. Rafael Ueta provided the game winner in the 69th minute. Los Toreros still sit 9th in the table, but trail Espoli in 8th place only on goal differential.
