Just kidding. There’s some sad news, though. Ecuador former star player Alberto Spencer died yesterday in the US.

Alberto Spencer was an awesome player who still holds records. He was unrecognised in Europe but in all Ecuadorians he will live on- R.I.P

Lee, you are right, Alberto Spencer was an awesome player. one day, someone will break his records, but that won’t matter, because he’ll be remembered for a lot more. at a time when it was wrong to be black, Spencer smashed through social boundaries with the same force and intensity he had on the pitch. he forced ecuadorians to address issues of equality, and it’s hard to say if players we adore today like Agustin Delgado or Carlos Tenorio would have ever had a chance to lace ‘em up on a stage like the World Cup if not for Spencer’s accomplishments. he was, for the most part, an unrecognized figure but hopefully in death he’ll get the recognition he deserves.
