Friendly Roster Update

Hmm. Now sources are suggesting that Coach Suarez will be scrapping the 4-4-2 formation for today’s friendly against Colombia. Just a few days ago, it looked like Carlos Tenorio and Ivan Kaviedes would start at forward; now it looks as if Agustin Delgado, right, will start up front, but all by himself. What’s going on here?

It could be that some precautionary injury-related moves are driving Suarez, but…I’d sure like to see two forwards start up front. This team will need some goals, and although the attacking midfield is certainly capable of knocking one in from time to time…well, you get the idea. I just hope this isn’t full-on tinker mode. On the bright side, hopefully this means that El Tin is in fact fit. Possible lineups after the jump.

Notes: Looks like Mora beat out Villafuerte in goal; for now. Also, everyone named Elkin on Colomba’s team actually plys his trade in Ecuador.

Ecuador
Cristian Mora
Ulises De la Cruz, José Luis Perlaza, Iván Hurtado, Giovanny Espinoza, Néicer Reasco
Marlon Ayoví, Edwin Tenorio, Antonio Valencia, Edison Méndez
Agustín Delgado

Colombia
Óscar Córdoba
Hayder Palacios, Luis Amaranto Perea, José Julián De la Cuesta, Andrés Orozco
John Viáfara, Fabián Vargas, Jaime Castrillón, Elkin Soto
Malher Tressor Moreno, Elkin Murillo.

Trent,

Frankensuarez is at it again. GREAT. If he wants to tinker he can work on my beat up 94 mazda AFTER the game but for chrissake, when you’re team is goal-challenged, why would you even think of starting just one forward? They need another player up front to detract attention from the lumbering giant. If JIK has been so eye-catching in practice like Suarez says he’s been, why not start him?

You made a good point. The midfield is very capable of scoring but the burden shouldn’t rest on their shoulders.

Having said that, I kind of like the idea that Perlaza’s starting. I think he’ll bring much needed size and stength to the back line.

It was controversial adding JIK to the roster but now not to play him. I am not in agreement. Hopefully, at minimum they’ll switch him in early in the game.

the formation is all an speculation, and I agree with you Trent it’s just too damn foolish for any team to play with just 1 forward, especially in the WC. Let’s wait and see what happens tonaight.

Is Ecuavisa showing the game? THe channel guide doesn’t show it.

La SOmbra Espinosa is hurt and will not play. I also heard that the reason Suarez is only using one striker is because he wants to use three center defenders to handle the two strikers Germany and Poland will line-up
