Friendly Aims
For the upcoming friendly against Colombia, Coach Luis Suarez says that he’ll use the match to gauge how well his team is employing his system. La Tri midfielder Segundo Castillo says that the friendly will give the team a chance to draw conclusions about the state of the squad so that any potential problems can be fixed.
No time like the present, I suppose. Of course the real question is, if after the Colombia match Suarez thinks that the team’s completely off track…then what? It’s been awhile since Suarez fielded the full first team, and there just isn’t much time to tweak like mad.
What do you guys think should be the team’s main goal against Colombia?

With the WC like three weeks away, someone should tell Coach Suarez that this is probably not the best time to TINKER with the team.
I seriously have no idea what to make of this guy. I thought back in January when the boys were touring Africa they should have been fielding their best players and prepping them for the Big Dance. Now Wednesday’s game is a scrimmage? That’s like Mike Tyson skipping rope and punching the speed bag in his lockerroom a half hour before a big fight.
The main goal of playing Colombia at the Meadowlands should be to get the team used to playing at sea level, and to streamline defense to offense. Granted, they got spanked in Baranquilla at sea level a year ago, but it was over 100 degrees there and besides, they were wearing those God-awful white kits.
I’d like to see La Tri take it to Colombia, without anyone getting careless and hurting themselves. It’s important that ECU doesn’t get gunshy (they’ve had serious problems in front of goal) and gets EVERYONE involved. Playing in the co-capital of Ecuador and sitting over a rancid swamp that should have the boys as high as Quito will instill confidence, just in time for the WC.
Battle cry…Jugamos como nunca, perdemos como siem…oh wait, not that one. ECUADOR, SI SE PUEDE!

You make a lot of good points, Dar. For next Wednesday, I’d like to see the actual starting XI go all out for at least 75 minutes.

Believe it or not we need to win that game. No question about it. Confidence is a big psychic on an athlete I should know I am one. If we don’t win it’s going to be another WC2002 for Ecuador. We need the momentum. Also LARA better start.
