FEF: Colombian Refs Should be Out of World Cup
Ecuadorian club side El Nacional has asked the Ecuadorian football federation (FEF) to petition CONMEBOL to ban from the World Cup the two Colombian officials who erronesouly allowed River Plate’s second goal in their Copa Libertadores clash with El Nacional. The two refs, Oscar Julian Ruiz and his assistant Carlos Betancourt, have admitted their mistake and apologized to El Nacional for the error. A (somewhat blurry) shot of the offending goal is at the right. Bottom line: no way both of those guys are banned from the World Cup. Sort of a whiny endeavor, but I guess you can’t blame el Nacional brass from standing up for its players and fans.
