El Tin Hangs Up the Boots

June 27th, 2006 | By: Trent | 4 Comments »

Ecuador striker Agustin “El Tin” Delgado has played his last match for Ecuador. The top scorer in his country’s history, El Tin will play a couple of more years at club level but his international days are done.

I have to say that Tin went out on a high note, even though the team lost to England. His two goals–as ordered by his momma–helped La Tri to its best-ever showing in international football.

Adios, Tin, you will be missed. Maybe he can help Liga de Quito win the Copa Libertadores later this summer.

nice blog Trent. You are right; El Tin is leaving the sport gracefully and with his head held high. He might not be the best striker Ecuador ever had, but he is certainly the most beloved.

It’s a pity that the media and fans alike consider Delgado lumbering and only dangerous in the air. The Delgado we saw in Germany is just a shadow of his former self. Granted, he’s wiser and more dangerous in the air now, but in his prime, El Tin was just as adept on the ground. His killer instict and incredible stength made him treacherous to defend against ca . 1999-2002 (check this out if you don’t believe me http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yRb9J69gWmY&search=delgado%20peru
Aching knees and a stubborn back ended the gentle giant’s career prematurely, but not before he put FEF on the map.

We’ll miss you ‘tin!
