March 8th, 2006 | By: Trent | 3 Comments »

Ecuadorian side El Nacional has been defeated by Argentine club River Plate 3-4 in Copa Libertadores action. El Nacional, leading at one point 3-1, allowed three second-half goals in 14 minutes to concede the defeat. Netting goals for El Nacional were Ecuadorian internationals Cristian Lara (29’) and Felix Borja (38’ and 54’). Really a heartbreaking loss, despite the good individual performances from some of the national team players.

Hi jock–

You’re probably right. River’s second goal, by Santana, should likely not have counted for failure to cross the line. Even though the game was in Buenos Aires, and River is River, El Nacional shouldn’t have continued to give up goals anyway after being up 3-1 and 3-2. But yeah, that second goal was bad.
