Ecuador’s Beckham Brings Running Water

June 24th, 2006 | By: Trent | 11 Comments »

I’m not entirely sure why the English press call Ulises de la Cruz Ecuador’s David Beckham, but they do rightly point out his amazing philanthropy.

UDLC did, after all, bring running water to his hometown. And he gives 20% of his $27,000 weekly wage to charity. But to be fair, David Beckham’s hometown has running water, too.

Which is all to say, as we’ve said before, that UDLC is one of the greatest guys playing international football. He may or may not be back at Aston Villa next season, but he’ll surely land on his feet.

And if you’re a completist, you can read this meditation on the difference between UDLC’s wife and the partying wives of the England footballers. For what it’s worth.

What a great guy God bless him and may his team go far in the world cup. We need more people like him in the world. People who are willing to give a little of what they get to help others.

Ecuador is the cinderella team of the world cup. No one expected Ecuador to be in the world cup for the second consecutive time. My team has made it really far!!! I wish them the best. I just happen to be the cousin of one of the players (# 13- Paul Ambrossi)

ABZ. You might want to take some English spelling lessons before posting (and making a fool of yourself).

One of the many stories I enjoyed about Ecuador was to get to know some of the players. Getting to know about UDLC has been a pleasure. To me its great to know that he is a very good soccer player and a better individual. I expect a great game from him tomorrow.

Interesting articles on Ulises’s philantrophy. To be fair, though, we should mention that both Bam Bam and Tin also have charitable foundations in their home towns.
