Ecuador World Cup Roster!

Here they are, the 23 nice-smelling men who will lead Ecuador into the World Cup this summer. Coach Luis Suarez has released the final World Cup roster, and there are a few surprises, most notably the inclusion of Ivan Kaviedes (which I consider a very good thing). Check out the full list after the jump.

The 23 players by position, with their club team in parentheses.

Goalkeepers:
Cristian Mora (Liga de Quito)
Edwin Villafuerte (Deportivo Quito)
Damián Lanza (Aucas)

Defenders:
Ulises de la Cruz (Aston Villa-England)
Neicer Reasco (Liga de Quito)
Paúl Ambrosi (Liga de Quito)
Giovanny Espinoza (Liga de Quito)
Iván Hurtado (Al Arabi-Qatar)
Jorge Guagua (El Nacional)
José Luis Perlaza (Olmedo)

Midfielders:
Edison Méndez (Liga de Quito)
Antonio Valencia (Recreativo-Spain)
Edwin Tenorio (Barcelona)
Marlon Ayoví (Deportivo Quito)
Segundo Alejandro Castillo (El Nacional)
Luis Fernando Saritama (Deportivo Quito)
Cristian Lara (El Nacional)
Patricio Urrutia (Liga de Quito)

Forwards:
Agustín Delgado (Liga de Quito)
Félix Borja (El Nacional)
Iván Kaviedes (Argentinos Juniors-Argentina)
Carlos Tenorio (Al Sadd-Qatar)
Christian Benítez (El Nacional)

Much more analysis to come of course!

It’s the best that we’ve got, the only player that could’ve been add it to the roster is Felipe Caicedo, but he’ll have to wait for the next one, he’s still only 17, we’ll make it there too so don’t worry Felipe.

MY SON…er…Benitez it is!

And that’s some soft spot Suarez has for JIK.

Yeah, my first reaction is posivitive as well. My forwards list had Mina instead of Benitez, but I can live with Benitez or even F. Caicedo if he had been named.

I would have liked to see Fricson George in the squad, as well as David Quiroz.

Kinda feel bad for Baldeon, he peaked a little too late.

And we can get Perlaza to do something with that hairstyle of his before they start taking team photos?

It is a good roster. As I’ve mentioned on this site before I was hoping Salas would be there but he must be hurt or short of match fitness and not Rooney-esque enough to risk at this point. I’d like Mina over Kaviedes or C.Benitez (who I cant say I know very well…)

Can they really go wrong with siete Liga players???

Who will be the starting XI?

GK: Mora

D: Ambrosi, Hurtado, Guagua, UDLC

M: Mendez, Valencia, Lara, Saritama (I’d like but not sure who the 4th will be)

F: El Tin, Borja/Tenorio

El Simon,

I like your starting eleven, but I think Suarez will go with La Sombra over Guagua. Gaugua’s got that flair, but he’s another loose cannon.

Personally I’d go with Reascos over Ambrosi but Paulie’s probably more level-headed.

I like Saritama too but he plays too similar to Valencia. I’d take Ayovi or Castillo over Sari. And Borja should get the nod over Carlitos.

I feel compelled to always make note of players’ good deeds, because heaven knows I’d mention it if Edwin were caught in a Dusseldorf brothel this summer. Fair’s fair. [...]
