I need to let go of this (eventually, anyway) but any defensive formation without Ivan Hurtado makes me nervous. It will be interesting to see how the Ecua defense handles Pizarro. I’m also interested to see if Felipe Caicedo can get some minutes.
Lastly…even though Mendez has the seniority, I wonder how long before Valencia runs that midfield?
What do you think?

here we go with the experimental squads again…
i like it though, i think Suarez has a nice mix of newbies and vets that will get the job done against a full-strength Peruvian team.
Valencia already runs the midfield. Mendez has a nasty tendency of going AWOL for long periods of time. he basically tightens up and just avoids action. LAV, meanwhile makes his presence felt regardless of whether he’s having a good day or bad day. I remember he exploded onto the scene last year against Paraguay, then had a string of sub-par performances, but even then he was pro-active trying to make things happen.
Any speculation on a lineup? i’m excited to see Salas back and Montano alive. i hadn’t heard anything about the guy in years.
Larita will be missed, i was sure he was destined for a starting role some day…

The return of Salas is great! I wish he was healthy at the World Cup as at 100% health, he could have given the English defense a nasty test in the Rd of 16.

Since when was I. Hurtado excluded? That sucks badly don’t you think?

yeah for real. the defense is gonna be real shakey without him…
supposedly he won’t be playing because his club wouldn’t release him. same goes with larita, mendez, borja, castillo and saritama. valencia’s injured so he’s out.
also, it seems he changed his mind a little bit: http://www.eluniverso.com/2006/08/31/0001/15/9CDBA59C355C4FC6B913D5FE05165891.aspx
any speculation on who will start? i’d like to see an experimental lineup but not one that’ll send us home with our jerseys inside out. i think something like this would be pretty cool:
mora
montano, guagua, espinoza, ambrossi
e. tenorio, urrutia, soledispa, kaviedes
caicedo, salas
coach suarez will prob try out perlaza and throw super teno into the mix if we go down a goal…
hmm, it looks a little flimsy. the regulars are gonna be badly missed.
