Ecuador v. Macedonia: Second Half
Well, that’s all she wrote. Ecuador lose to Macedonia 1-2. Not a good result.
Man, this Macedonian ‘keeper is looking good today. In the 89th minute, he snatched away another dangerous cross from Lara.
In the 85th minute, Kaviedes and De la Cruz combine for a magnificent play…that ends in another great save. That guy is earning his paycheck today. Nikolovski is his name.
Ecuador are back in control, but to no avail thus far. A Castillo header hit the cross bar, and the Macedonian ‘keeper made another great save of a Kaviedes shot.
Disaster. Penalty against the captain, Ivan Hurtado. Macedonia now lead 2-1.
About 20 minutes to go, still 1-1. Poor Villafuerte. For all of the heartattacks Mora gave me last Wednesday, he’s got to start in goal come June 9.
Ulises de la Cruz on for Carlos Tenorio. One’s a right-back and the other’s a forward, but I’m sure there is some method to this madeness. And oh yeah, Super Teno is hurt.
At the 61st minute, Perlaza comes on for Espinoza. We’re getting down to the “B” team at this point. I gotta think Suarez is not happy about the squandered chances.
The first 15 minutes of the second half continue to go Ecuador’s way, but a lack of quality finishing has kept the score 1-1. Ivan Kaviedes is now in the game; hopefully he can provide some punch.
The halftime subs are as follows: Kaviedes for Valencia; Urrutia for Ayoví, Guagua for Méndez; and Lara for Delgado.
We begin the second half knotted at 1-1.

[...] FYR Macedonia 2 – Ecuador 1 With all due apologies to the part of Greece that is called Macedonia, having to type “FYR”, former Yugoslav Republic, in front of Macedonia every time there is a game involving the team is a bit of a drag. Nevertheless, the FYRers managed to knock off La Tri in a game played in Spain. For the life of me I can’t quite figure out Ecuador. I think if they were just a wee bit stronger they would be poised to advance out of a Group A that is increasingly looking like a very weak group. [...]

Greece is a part of MACEDONIA. Reed history and you will understand. But people in Greece dont accept that and because of that they dont accept MACEDONIA as a country

I’m with you, Kicho. And congrats on the win. Macedonia’s goalkeeper is a stud.
