Ecuador v. Colombia Friendly

May 22nd, 2006 | By: Trent | 13 Comments »

This Wednesday, May 24, Ecuador will face Colombia in a friendly match in the United States. The match will be held in Giants Stadium, near New York City. I spent all night making a scale model of the stadium for you, shown at right. As you know, Colombia failed to qualify for the World Cup this year, but they should be a great tune-up for the tournament.

Ecuador’s probable roster can be found here. I’m especially looking forward to see how the front line does without Agustin Delgado, who is likey being withheld from this match for precautinary reasons.

The New York metropolitan area has many Ecuadorians and Colombians–both immigrants and descendants–so it should be a great fan atmosphere. Yours truly will be there with camera in tow, hoping to get some good shots of the crowd and of the action.

But wait–there’s more! Preceding the international match will be an MLS contest pitting Red Bull New York against FC Dallas. Ecuadorian striker Roberto Mina (who missed making the World Cup roster by thismuch–plays for Dallas, so it will be an all-around-Ecua evening for football fans.

I know that several of our readers are also attending the match. Okay–so who’s excited?

Go ECUADOR and have a great time! Looking forward to seeing some of your pics!

I am definitely getting into the cup I even ended up buying the Ecuaador TUNIT X-32 cleats. As well as putting together a shrine to Ecuador! Wait until my wife sees the credit card statement. oh lord!

Mr. Trent,

I’m good to go. Got my tix on Saturday..HAVE YOUR CAMERA READY! We usually sit behind the Barcelona banner to the side of the goal. Some of the boys will be wearing Scream masks and we’ll all have ecua/barca/che flags.

This game’s as important as any WC match we’ll play. There’s a lot of emotion and a ton of pride at stake.

Any idea which side will be wearing yellow? i wanna match accordingly…

Dar, I haven’t heard which team is wearing yellow. Ecuador is always listed as the home team the places I’ve seen, but no confirmation on the jerseys.

By the way, do they sell cerveza at Giants Stadium during football matches? Um, I’m asking for a friend.

Trent,

can’t say for sure about the beer. At Ecua games past they’ve always sold alcohol, but some rowdy Giants fans might’ve ruined the fun for all of us earlier this year. No matter, hit up one of the speakeasy’s (read: little old ladies with a shopping cart) BEFORE the game for a real cerveza and you’ll be good to go.

Enjoy the game!!
