Ecuador FIFA Ranking: 39

April 19th, 2006 | By: Trent | 3 Comments »

As you can see here, Ecuador have dropped one spot to 39 in FIFA’s latest national team rankings. In a vacuum, Ecuador often seem like the 39th-best team in the world, but when you look at where the other nations are ranked, the silliness of it all comes in to focus. Hey, I like the US team, but no. 4? Is Italy really that much worse than the Czech Republic? Hey, that’s why they play the games I suppose. And anyway, the rankings give us football nerds something to chat about every mid-month.

I guess it goes to show that the rankings don’t mean that much, especially when two teams lace up the boots and go at it.

After all, Ecuador beat Brazil and Argentina in World Cup qualifying, but no one would suggest that they should be ranked near those two powerhouses.

And congrats to Macedonia!
