Ecuador 3-0 Costa Rica

June 15th, 2006 | By: Trent | 29 Comments »

You may have heard: Ecuador defeated Costa Rica 3-0 today in Hamburg. Ecuador are now in the second round, and in fact now top the group on goal difference.

Goals from Carlos Tenorio, Agustin Delgado and Ivan Kaviedes. The latter of which, I might point out, had a mask in his pants in case he scored. Well done, El Nine.

Much, much more later. Yahoo!

In fairnes, it was difficult to tell what kind of mask it was (at least on the feed that I saw). If it was for O. Tenorio, I hope that that fact gets to the mass media types.

The whole mask thing was a tribute to O. Tenorio, his friend and teammate who died last year. Tenorio was known as “el enmascarado” and often wore those masks.

Trent,

exactly. that’s why i pounced on it. i hope the word gets around quickly what the deal was. if you find a pic you’ll see spiders etched onto the sides of the mask. Otito’s nickname was Spider-man because he used to break out the Spider-man mask when he scored. He actually broke it out against Peru in ny three years ago, and fox sports made note of it, so i’m sure they’ll have the record straight.

Okay, I’ve now seen a quick clip of it, and it was a yellow spiderman-type mask. When I get a good still, I’ll make a separate post about it.

I’m still on the high of our victory so what Kaviedes did defintely shocked me. When I saw it, Terrell Owens celebrations came to my mind which isn’t necessarily a classy or good thing. However,If it was a tribute to Otelino then I believe the media make light of it. However, I’m sure Fifa will have something to say about this for future celebrations.

Wow, we are going to the knock out rounds!!

E4L

P.S. any body thinking about going to Germany for the knock out rounds. I may just be on my way!

Great win for Ecuador, congratulations. Now drawing with Germany and finishing first in Group A doesn’t seem out of the question. And if not, I’m already thinking ahead to an England-Ecuador matchup in the knockout stages. Congrats on your great performance and good luck the rest of the way!

Great display! Ecuador has proved all the critics wrong so far by playing some of the best soccer of all teams in the tournament – I can’t wait to see them take on Germany!

Whatever the result, I hope Ecuador plays England in the round of 16 so they can show them how to really play!

Hi Melany! I’m not in Canada, so I can’t say. I’ll put up a new post asking for the info, though. Enjoy the games, and thanks for visiting!
