Ecuador 1-2 Macedonia
Well that wasn’t good. For long stretches of the match, Ecuador dominated the pitch. But the second half once again proved to be the team’s undoing. In the last four friendlies–Netherlands, Japan, Colombia and Macedonia–La Tri have given up five goals, four in the second half.
One goal against Macedonia is simply not acceptable. Delgado wasn’t much of a factor today, and although you have to respect Carlos Tenorio for his nice goal, he’s now injured and will likely be out for the next couple of weeks, missing Ecuador’s June 9 match against Poland. Kaviedes came off of the bench to create some nice plays, but he missed a sitter and failed to produce any goals.
The defense needs to keep full concentration; letting up but for a minute against World Cup competition will prove disastrous. I though Hurtado was a rock against Colombia, but he made one or two errors today that are not excusable.
More later. For now, here is Ecuador’s lineup and the goal scorers from today’s friendly:
Goals: Carlos Tenorio ’18 for Ecuador; Goran Maznov ’28 and Igor Mitreski ‘73 for Macedonia.
Ecuador:
Edwin Villafuerte
Neicer Reasco, Iván Hurtado, Giovanny Espinoza (José Luis Perlaza ’61), Paúl Ambrosi
Marlon Ayoví (Jorge Guagua ’46), Segundo Castillo, Edison Méndez (Patricio Urrutia ’46), Luis Valencia (Cristian Lara ’46)
Carlos Tenorio (Ulises De la Cruz ’64), Agustín Delgado (Iván Kaviedes ’46).

Ouch, very poor result for Ecuador. Thank god I didn’t wager money on this game.

[...] FYR Macedonia 2 - Ecuador 1 With all due apologies to the part of Greece that is called Macedonia, having to type “FYR”, former Yugoslav Republic, in front of Macedonia every time there is a game involving the team is a bit of a drag. Nevertheless, the FYRers managed to knock off La Tri in a game played in Spain. For the life of me I can’t quite figure out Ecuador. I think if they were just a wee bit stronger they would be poised to advance out of a Group A that is increasingly looking like a very weak group. [...]

I have to admit not knowing all the details I am disappointed in the results. I’m trying to be optimistic but losing against Macedonia has piereced a deep wound through my armor. What are the positives of this game, if any? After this what kind of chances do we have in the WC? Was the goal keeper that good or are we inept in scoring?
Got the blues,

[...] Besides the deflating result from yesterday’s friendly, Ecuador suffered a second blow when striker Carlos Tenorio went down with a leg injury. Further test being performed today will indicate whether Teno with be available for the start of the World Cup. [...]

Yes,i agree that this is only the small part of what country Macedonia sometime was and i can see my country Macedonia on the next World cup.If we were able to beat the 3-rd football power from latin america then we can win everybody including “europian champions”who by the way are not on this world cup.One more thing.I do not understand why are some greeks afraid of the name MACEDONIA,and why are you trying to use politics in this football world. Not fyrom-MACEDONIA!!!!

What a disasterous result. Things are going from bad to worse it seems for Ecuador. Y’need to get yourselves together and use your assets before you get mauled in the WC

All world play futboll now but is not real result I think. Any way Macedonia is a europien tim and is from a Yugoslavien fotboll schul and any further comments are not nesesery. it is a frendly game and Ecuador is not bet tim.

First of all, the match: it was interesting for the macedonian team to test their skills with a latin-american team. Balcan teams should not be underestimated, especially Macedonia, who will grow in the very near future.
Second: strange thing that politics get involved when talking about Macedonia… Well, it IS Macedonia, not fyrom or ohter bullshit. By the way, how can one be called former “yougoslav” when the name “yougoslavia” doesn’t exist anymore? Why isn’t the following applied: Former Yougoslav Republic of Serbia (FYROSE); Former Yougoslav Republic of Slovenia (FYROSL); Former Yougoslav Republic of Croatia (FYROC); Former Yougoslav Republic of Bosnia (FYROB); Former Yougoslav Republic of Montenegro (FYROMO)? The only country making problems (like always) is Greece. Listen well you greeks: the so called “greek” macedonia has always been non-hellenistic, always! Since 1913 the greeks have done everything to keep this in silent by denying, prosecution etc…
I have no more to say about this. Just let enjoy football!!
