Ecua Exodus
Ecuador captain Ivan “Bam Bam” Hurtado may be headed to Italy, according to his agent. The agent has yet to release the name of a specific club. It goes without saying that Bam Bam’s move to Serie A would be fantastic both for he and for Ecuadorian football in general. What’s more, at least four other Ecuadorian players may follow suit after the World Cup.
El Nacional striker Felix Borja has already signed a contract with Olympiakos of Greece. Segundo Alejandro Castillo could be headed to one of the top clubs in Agrentina. And two other El Nacional players will probably land in new leagues, with David Quiroz heading to La Liga in Spain and Cristian Benitez to parts as yet unknown. Could be an exciting time for Ecuadorian football this summer and beyond.

Are there any Ecuadorians in Serie A now?

Not at the moment. It sort of goes without saying, however, that Ivan Kavides used to play in Serie A, for perugia. If El Nine transfers to the Benin Premier League, that will be all 163 top flight divisions that he will have played in.

Can he moonlight as a martime inspector? If yes, Benin is the place for him.

I’d guess El Nine is more piratical than just nautical, but I can’t say for sure. And anyway, this summer Coffi must be getting around 40-50 times the per capita GDP of Benin; surely he can lay off the boat inspections for a spell.
