Copa America Final: Ecuador 2-3 Chile

What an incredible turn of events. And what a devastating loss. Qualification looks bleak after the 2-3 loss to a clearly outclassed Chilean team.

Not good.

Kevin,
I admire your ability to see the future and predicted that Ecuador would lose. My comment on the game: Ecuador was a superior team for the first 75 minutes. There were three things that went wrong for us. Chile had a superb goalkeeper. Ivan and Mora need to sit in the bench and get new people. Look what happen to Mexico! They replace almost everyone and they beat Brazil. THird, Suarez should have made two changes at half time and reinforce the back or middle.

I think it is going to be tough to build momentum to beat Mexico and Brazil. At leat we did not lose 6-1 like in Peru.

Cheer up guys. We will prevail!

I agree Mora looked flat footed, Suarez should have had subs in a lot earlier

Well said Leon :D It’s only a matter of time till our guys pull themselves together and get back to their best :) still it really does bother me when our defence seems to be our weakest link especially with all our praise for how strong we were at the back during the WC. Makes me wonder if Suarez has changed his approach to a more attacking minded game or is it just simply our guys up back losing concentration right at the end … still im not losing faith in our guys :) they had their wake up call and im sure they would be busting to prove they can get one back against the mexicans ;) SI SE PUEDE!!

I see Ecuador, even with all our problems in defense (and that clown of a goalie), as working through the stage before becoming a truly dominant team. We scored almost immediately Chile tied it up, our players were fast, smart, and had a good sense of position. Sure, there were certain glaring weaknesses. But our basic problem was that we couldn’t kill the game off. That’s what separate good teams from great teams. Once we learn to do that, we are going to be so good!

At this point, it still feels like the team plays on a precipice. We just have to keep improving. Our players have so much raw talent.

If they want to win games they would have to improve their defence. Their defence is horrible. Hurtado almost gave up a goal. What use does that big body give to espinoza? De la Cruz is allright but i could tell he was getting tired out there. Bagui is a rookie out there and he needs more expierence. I really like the defence that played against Ireland. Ecuador will probably tie one game and win the other game. I’m not so sure, depending how the line-up is for the next two games. I really wish Ecuador can get their act together becuase if they don’t… they will be history just like before.

Does anybody have Juergen Klinsmann’s phone number? The F.E.F. might need it soon, if we keep losing. It gets late awfully early for Suarez

I agree with you Alexa in saying they just couldn’t “kill the game off” and it really was so true from even looking at the highlights on youTube they had the better game but couldn’t pull that one goal when they needed it most of all… but hey all in all I think although we did lose, the next two games are going to be something very interesting to watch :D as for the goalkeeper what happened to Rorys Aragon doesn’t he play for a european team or am I thinking of someone else?

Kevin,
I dont agree with your comment on Tin. I think he would not be able to keep with the speed and intensity of the game. Suarez needs to urgently replace Mora and Hurtado. He needs to bring in Reasco and Urrutia. They hustle and break up the opponents defense

STOP PICKING ON MORA!!!!! Hurtado’s old, he should be out of the seleccion for letting someone like Suazo make goals. THe guy cant mark anymore he old and out.

We don’t need el tin. Benitez played like a superstar yesterday, and Valencia was superb. I’m really mad about this result. We better beat Mexico. I say it’s Guagua’s time to shine.

besides nobody thought a bad team like Chile would beat us. Suazo is a master, do you expect Mora to stop his shots all thet time???????

I do think Hurtado has past his best since the WC ended and it is a perfect time for the next guys to step up :D as for Mora I don’t hate the guy and im sure he is a quality keeper and yes he can’t save everything all the time but for some reason I don’t know….he just doesn’t show me something to enforce he should be the 1st choice keeper maybe I havent seen the best of the guy :D hopefully he gets a chance against mexico to prove why he is 1st choice, but id still like to see some one like Rory fight for his spot :D nothing like a little rivalry ;)

kn you might be right. I think Suarez was/is counting on Hurtados experience but maybe its time for Guagua to step it up for the country. I also think that Suarez made a big mistake by not subbing in some fresh legs. Guagua, Urrutia and Reasco could have hustled the last 30 minutes to help keep the tie…at least. As for Mora, I think he’s a good goalie but he should have stopped at least one of the three.

Well, man i hope they don’t get rid of Suarez like they did el Bolillo. Suarez is much better.

From what I read, though he plans to use Bam bam again. Dang the coach must be having a ilusion. :)

ARRECHO ECUADOR!!!!!

Leon,
El Tin isn’t history any more that’s why he is playin in a good club like liga de quito. If they try him for one game he would make a goal, i am very sure of that.

My grandfather from Guayaquil (a sore loser all the time) always makes the excuse when Ecuador loses that they don’t have their best players. I told him bluntly that they had their best team, they was just playing bad. I asked him who was missing.

“El Tin, y el otro puntero de Liga,” he said whinily.

WHAT THE HECK, PPL???? El Tin is history!! Benitez and Caicedo are the new ones to stick with. My abuelo was right about Salas “el otro puntero” but what kind of stupid excuse is this about el tin delgado??

I stand by my comment that if it wasn’t for the defense we would have won. It’s not the strikers or the midfielders is the defense that didn’t mark. I said before that Suazo is a master. You don’t let him go. It makes me realy mad when I see the same defence that guarded stars like Ballack, Klose, Smolarek, Kryzniowek, Gerrard, Rooney and others LOSE 3-2 to Chile. Please what kind of team is that?

I think El Tin still has some goals left in the bag, I think he’s still an excellent finisher. Maybe he would be a really good back up striker behind Benitez and Tenorio but in a game where the coach wants hustle and speed up front theres new guys for the job. Strikers aren’t Ecuadors problem though, like kn is sayin. They could easily have won with the 2 goals they scored. The defence lost it and those guys gotta step it up big time. That loss against chile was a real let down.

I back up kn 100% on saying defence is our biggest issue at the moment and like ive said before even more so because of the standard we got so used to from the WC it really is strange how over a year how our defence has changed, I mean just look at Hurtado as a perfect example he was one of our superstars last year now he looks like he should be thinking about retirement plans :( sad but i’m hopeful Suarez will be looking to get our back line back to its best :D so bring on MEXICO ;) SI SE PUEDE!!!
