Clasico del Astillero Countdown: 3 Days

April 27th, 2006 | By: Trent | 3 Comments »

On Sunday, the George Capwell Stadium will host its first Shipyard Derby since being remodeled and refurbished. For the uninitiated, Emelec v. Barcelona is Ecuador’s answer to Milan v. Inter or Boca v. River, with much less international attention of course. But it’s all the same to the fans involved. Alas, not all of the fans get along as well as the sweet kids in the photo at right.

In an attempt to head off as much of the shenanigans as possible, Emelec has decided not to sell tickets to Barcelona fans in the usual part of the Stadium. Fans of Los Toreros will have to sit in the Tribune San Martin section, and they will also have to use a different entrance than have fans from other teams. What’s really making the Barcelona fans grumble, however, is that they will have to pay double what fans from other teams are charged. Should be a great match!

Tomorrow: pics of the new and improved George Capwell Stadium.
